Let's All Hop On The 'Charlie'

Any town that has a trolley called the "Charlie" is a winner in my book. Just hearing this information made me automatically love Charleston, South Carolina. With breathtaking homes, cobblestone streets, good eats, beaches, shops on every corner and Spanish moss, all deep rooted in history, Charleston was a '10' in my book.

In typical fashion, we completely wore ourselves out the first day of the trip.. walking miles and miles in a shameless attempt to "see the city". Trip Adviser is certainly our friend in traveling adventures. In classic tourist style, we hit up all the highly rated restaurants, tours, museums and sites. There was certainly plenty to see. From city tours to ghost tours, we made sure to see it all. Coming home with blisters on every crevice of our feet, we were certainly satisfied.

Here is a glimpse of some of the beautiful sites of Charleston.

The gorgeous "Angel Oak" tree is breathtaking. Yes, we had to drive about 45 minutes away to see it, but Mary Jane (our tour guide) said it would be worth it. And she was right. I may have given poor directions, but either way...we made it...and it was gorgeous! Rumor has it that it shades over one acre. It is over 1500 years old and believed to be the oldest tree east of the Mississippi River.

This is Patriot's Point at the U.S.S. Yorktown. This was really cool! They even let you go into a WWII Submarine. This was kind of one of the funniest moments of the trip as we were accompanied into the very hot submarine by a farting, yelling redneck family with mullets. There were multiple times in this tour when I said "Am I being punked???!"

Gorgeous cobble stone roads.

The Calhoun Mansion. I believe it was about 24,000 sq ft! Boy oh boy, would I love to have this house listed ;)

We found this in the bakery of the U.S.S. Yorktown. I love chocolate chip cookies, so a recipe for 10,000 sounded perfect!

College of Charleston campus was gorgeous. The classrooms and offices were in old, beautiful homes!

We even managed to spend a couple of days on the beaches of Isle of Palms. It was a perfect and much needed vacation!
